If you want to get out for a drink then there are a few places close by, but plenty a bit further a field in neighbouring Brunswick and Fitzroy. High Street is the main shopping strip, with a great mixture of chilled out bars and restaurants, music venues and galleries. There is a nice pocket in the south east of Northcote, which borders Fairfield and Alphington. Another activity centre is Station Street and it is close to the Fairfield boat house, river and parkland.
The local All nations Park provides facilities for just about anything you could want at your local park including, skating, basketball and tennis. There are also playground for the younger kids and plenty of open spaces to run.
