Made famous internationally by the annual Grand Prix, South Melbourne and Albert Park, are gracious seaside suburbs close to the city. Albert Park also has some of the best examples of boom style Victorian architecture in Melbourne. St Vincents Place where grand double storey terraces face a magnificent park in the middle of the street is definitely worth a look.
Both South Melbourne and Albert Park have a fantastic selection of places to eat ranging from inexpensive cafes to five star dining.

WHAT TO SEE

Around the corner from South Melbourne’s busy shopping strip in Clarendon Street are some unique homeware and gift shops. Nearby is the South Melbourne market where you’ll find fresh food and plenty of other bargains from sunglasses to saucepans.
Albert Park is a great place to be if exercise is part of your routine. As well as the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre which caters for both children and adults, there’s plenty of spots to enjoy a leisurely stroll, a more energetic run or bike ride. Around Albert Park Lake is particularly charming with its black swans and other birdlife. There is also a public golf course.
